The Paperwork Matters as Much as the Wiring
Electrical work in a home is covered by Part P of the building regulations. Certain jobs — consumer unit changes, new circuits, and work in bathrooms and other special locations — are notifiable, which means they have to be carried out by a qualified electrician and either self-certified through a registered scheme or notified to building control.
Skipping that saves nothing. Uncertified work turns up in the searches when you sell, insurers ask about it after a fire, and putting it right afterwards costs more than doing it properly did. Electrical work on our jobs is carried out by qualified electricians and you get the certification for it.

Not every job is notifiable, but the ones that are matter a great deal.
New Circuits and Consumer Units
Replacing a fuse board, adding a new circuit, or electrical work in a bathroom or shower room all fall under the notifiable side of Part P and need certifying.
Keep the Paperwork
You should receive certification for notifiable work. Put it somewhere safe — your solicitor will ask for it when you sell, and replacing a lost certificate means paying for the work to be inspected again.

Who actually carries out the electrical work?
Qualified electricians. We manage the project and the trades around them, and the electrical side is done by people qualified to do it, with the appropriate certification issued for notifiable work. Ask at the quote stage and you will get a straight answer about exactly who is doing what on your job.
Will I get a certificate?
For notifiable work, yes — and keep it safe. Your solicitor will ask for it when you sell the property, and replacing a lost certificate means paying for the installation to be inspected all over again. It is a small piece of paper that saves a lot of hassle years later.
Does my house need a full rewire?
Not as often as people assume. Plenty of houses need a consumer unit upgrade and some remedial work rather than a complete rewire. Genuine warning signs are rubber or fabric-covered cabling, rewireable fuses, no RCD protection, warm sockets or repeated unexplained trips. It should be assessed before anyone quotes you for the big job.
Can you add sockets without wrecking the walls?
Adding sockets means chasing walls, so there will be making good afterwards — that is unavoidable. The difference is that we plaster and decorate too, so it gets properly repaired rather than left as a filled scar for you to sort out. Best of all is deciding while the walls are already open.
When should the electrics happen in a renovation?
First fix goes in after any structural work and before boarding and plastering. Second fix — accessories, testing and certification — comes near the end. Getting that sequence right is the single biggest saving on a renovation, because it avoids opening finished walls.
